Delhi Retina Meet 2018, was organized by Delhi Retina Forum on 1st & 2nd September, 2018 at Holiday Inn, Aerocity, New Delhi.

This forum has been conceptualized with two objectives; one to encourage and embolden young retina fellows and surgeons who are looking for little “mentoring” before they can take up more challenging cases. And second to connect the bright retinologists carrying daunting questions, innovative ideas and complex cases with an esteemed panel of experienced retina surgeons and teachers. This “encounter” results in healthy debates, knowledge sharing and 2-way learning with sole moto of improvising the way we treat our patients and thus better the patient outcomes.

The scientific programme was once again focused on these two objectives only.

We had Dr. Ehab N El Rayes from Egypt who demonstrated Surgeries and drug delivery to Suprachoroidal space. This was a relatively less explored space and supra-choroidal interventions had tremendous potential for finding a place in our armamentarium.

We also had 3 unique sessions;

Dissection room allowed us to critically analyze, review and discuss surgery for Retinal Re-Surgeries, where panel of senior surgeons shared its experience and approach for related surgical challenges.

“What Next” was a video-based session that involved interactive discussions on uncommon surgical complications. From large IOFBs to subfoveal PFO to Combined RDs and Suprachoroidal hemorrhage, some of these real-life situations are so rare that choosing right approach couldn’t be solely based on evidence-based medicine. Sharing them on this platform allowed perspectives and inputs from retinal surgeons with different school of thoughts which helped delegates formulate the best possible approach for tackling these difficult situations.

“Prove Your Point” is session where unconventional and less reported treatment strategies like Biologicals in Paediatric uveitis, Anti-VEGF in Mac Tel and Sandwiching Inferior RRDs were presented by our colleagues in their zest to manage complex diseases. The presentations evoked strong reactions and rebuttals..

Sessions on Advances in Medical Retina, Grand rounds and Cutting edge Vitreoretinal surgery had practically useful pearls on topics like Suprachoroidal drug delivery, New biomarkers in multimodal Imaging and Hard exudates affecting fovea deliberated by vastly experienced retinal surgeons who discussed the tips and tricks for managing diverse vitreoretinal pathologies.
