Delhi Retina Forum is a platform, for sharing ideas, experiences and updates, created by and for vitreo-retinal Surgeons.

Speciality of Vitreoretina is the most exciting and fastest growing sub-speciality in Ophthalmology. Given the vastness of the speciality, huge variety of cases and technological advancements, the retinologists across the country are always on their toes to acquire, share and dissipate new skills and knowledge among themselves. As a result, the retina meetings and CMEs that would advocate new developments in the field of vitreoretina became very frequent but new theories, ideas need to be discussed and challenged before we adopt them into our practice. Add to this the challenges faced by fellows would need some mentoring during the initial phases of vitreoretinal practice. These two things created a need to have a “different” platform for interactions between vitreoretinal specialists and that’s how Delhi Retina forum was born.

Prime focus of this forum has been scientific discussions that are candidly debated on various media. Practicing the speciality of Vitreo-Retina has been one of the most exciting as well as challenging things. VR surgeons are known for their analytical and patient centric approach. Thanks to their clinical acumen and the desire to help each other in providing best possible care to the patients, the forum is now been joined by more than 500 committed retinologists from India who believe in logistical application of latest updates and developments in field of Vitreo retina. We are also lucky to be guided/mentored by the eminent teachers and most experienced VR surgeons of this field. Simultaneously, we try our best to maintain the focus on high quality of academic content of all our discussions and debates. This has made possible our annual Delhi Retina Meet as one national meeting that stands apart from other “conventional conferencing”. A meeting which stands apart in terms of its power packed content, originality and practicality. Over years, the meeting has grown to become one of the most attended and applauded vitreoretina meetings that is unique in terms of quality of scientific content, originality in ideas and ample time allotted for discussions. This meet also provides great opportunity to fellows and young VR specialists to showcase their innovations and discuss challenges.

With this digital platform, We hope to carry on with the momentum and stick to our trademark format that focuses on knowledge sharing through discussions.

How we have grown

DELHI RETINA FORUM, A SPARK LIT IN 2014, HAS GROWN TO BECOME A GUIDING LIGHT FOR ALL THOSE IN QUEST OF KNOWLEDGE. IT IS OUR GOAL TO IMPROVE FURTHER. THE JOURNEY HAS JUST BEGUN…..

2014
DRF Launched Formally

The winter of 2014 saw a group of (of about 25) young, enthusiastic vitreoretina specialists from delhi, get together for a series of small evening discussion. The sole aim was to provide a comfortable enviornment to all, to share there queries without any fear of judgement/ reproach. A voluntary core group was formed. 6 persons from 6 different institutions and backgrounds, who took up the responsibility of organising these meetings and to ensure a high scientific content being delivered to its members. By the end of the year, the success of the forum was evident, by having our teachers and mentors join us on this platform and taking us to the next level.

2015
DRF goes national

Delhi retina forum along with Novartis pharma jointly organised the 9th Indian AMD and Retina congress. DRF was given the opportunity to create and run the scientific content of the meeting and received tremendous accolades from 300 strong participants of the meet. We had some excellent interactions with our international faculty Dr. David Brown (USA) and Dr. Carl Claes (Belgium).
This year also saw Retina forum being formally registered as a group and also hold its first international speakers program in December with Prof. Anat Lowenstein from Tel Aviv, Israel

2-16
First Delhi Retina Meet

Delhi Retina forum grew from strength to strength. The forum was invited to conduct a session at the prestigious DOS annual conference.
The July of 2016 saw the forum venture into its first stand alone national conference “ DELHI RETINA MEET 2016 “ at india habitat centre, New Delhi. A meeting which laid the foundation for all our future growths. A meeting highly appreciated for its scientific content, discussion oriented presentations and strict time management. First time in India, a workshop on Macular buckle, was done with Dr. Carlos Mateo from Spain guiding the participants with nuances of the procedure. Also for the first time a session was given to the participants to show case there innovations in the field.
This year we also held our second International speakers program with Dr. Timothy Lai from Hong Kong

2017
First DRM Winter Meet and Launch of our WhatsApp discussion Portal

The year started with our first DRM Winter meet on the first weekend of the year. A meet which also brought to forefront our hallmark session “ What next” on surgical complications, which has since then been an integral part of each of our meets.
We also successfully organised our second DRM in August 2017 with Prof BD Kuppermann (USA), Dr. Hany Hamza (Egypt) and Dr. J. Nawrocki (Poland) as our international stars, along with a galaxy of national stars. With this meeting we introduced our participants to two new sessions ‘“Dissection Room”, an in depth analysis of a topic and “Prove your point” a place to share and prove your out of box ideas and research.
2017 was also the year when we started our Whats App discussion forum, which has since then grown to be a primary portal for VR surgeons across India to discuss there queries candidly and especially without any spams or forwards to disturb them.

2018
Third Delhi Retina Meet

This year saw DRF showcase there work at both AIOS annual conference and DOS annual conference.
3rd Delhi Retina Meet was held on 1st-2nd September at Holiday Inn, New Delhi. The meeting was attended by more than 200 VR surgeons from across India with our well appreciated format focussing more on discussion than on didactic presentations. Our hallmark sessions “Dissection room”, “Whats Next”, “Prove your point” and “Grand rounds” forming the backbone of our meeting. But the highlight of the meeting was our workshop by Dr. Ehab El Reyes on Suprachoroidal injections and surgery in suprachoroidal space.

2019
Fourth Delhi Retina Meet

The fourth meeting of delhi retina forum held on 24-25th August 2019 in Hyatt Regency, New Delhi had a record attendance and submissions to make for a very interesting power packed 2 days of deliberations. As always the workshop on Autologous RPE and Choroidal transplant by Dr. Barbara Paraloni (Italy) was keenly attended and appreciated. An early morning round table on ICG interpretation with Dr. Lim Tock Han (Singapore) set a tone to the whole meet. Along with this a vibrant and enthusiastic Dr. Hasan Mortada (Egypt) really provided a well rounded panel to discuss our cases and surgical queries. Our audience rated this as our best meeting till date
